At a Glance: In rather dramatic fashion, one more of the gargoyle clutch finds his mate and saves the day.

Blurb: Into the Paranormal World: Putting your faith in the unknown can be terrifying, but the rewards can far outweigh the fears.
Kort is a gargoyle and known as the friendly playboy of the clutch, while nothing could be further from the truth. As much as he flirts with almost every available male that enters the gargoyle’s estate, he’s never taken any to his bed. Kort is waiting, just as he has been for over three hundred years. After watching a number of his buddies be blessed with their mates, he has faith that Fate will soon reveal his own other half.
When Kort smells something wonderful on the clothes of a fellow gargoyle’s mate, he is quick to question the human. He suspects the other man has been in contact with his mate. Learning that the owner of the scent, a human named Mace Capston, was just in the emergency room, Kort locates the human’s home and takes up a vigil. He waits impatiently for his opportunity to speak to the human. The first time he has a conversation with the injured man, however short and in the darkness, leaves Kort eager for more.
When Mace’s attacker returns, Kort whisks the cute human to safety…too bad his mate passes out from fear in the process. Can Kort convince Mace that the creature from the dark is not the real monster?
Review: Kort’s Treasure is the 13th novella in this series, but it can be read as a standalone, as the other characters and their relationships are explained enough throughout the story—although some of the content might be considered spoilers for previous books.
Kort is a big flirt, the biggest in the gargoyle clutch. Little does anyone know he’s hiding a secret. When he smells a tantalizing scent on a fellow gargoyle’s human mate, he’s distracted and determined to find the source. When it turns out it’s a human named Mace, who has been abused by an ex-boyfriend, all Kort wants to do is make sure he’s safe.
While watching over Mace at night, Kort can’t help but make contact. He keeps to the shadows and talks to Mace, who is recuperating from his broken wrist and arm courtesy of the jerk he had been dating. Mace can’t help wonder why he feels safe and attracted to the man in the shadows.
When Mace is once again in danger, it’s Kort to the rescue—but Mace has a typical reaction to seeing Kort for the first time. Kort and Wren, Mace’s boss and friend, try to help Mace adjust to the new world order he’s just become aware of. Luckily, the mate pull is a help and once Mace feels more comfortable, he’s willing to give Kort a chance.
This is another cute addition to this series. I am always hopeful with the gargoyle series that we get to see the gargoyles mate, and the potential for more gargoyle babies (squee!). Kort and Mace are both very sweet characters who deserve their HEA after all they’ve gone through, and after waiting for so long. I enjoyed their story and hope we see them in future episodes of this series.
