Review: I was very torn by Falling for Ramos. Sue Brown is one of those authors that I would buy her books even if there wasn’t a blurb. I mean really, it’s Sue Brown! The blurb for this book made me shiver with anticipation and really, I just couldn’t wait to read it.
In the opening scene, Colin sees his ex’s picture in the paper and finds out that the man is back in London. Even after ten years, a simple picture affects him more than any flesh and blood man ever could. His current lover is not happy with this development because he knows of the hold Ramos still has on Colin, even all these years later.
When Colin and Ramos were students, they both believed they would be together forever. When Ramos let his family’s expectations come between them, Colin knew they were done, no matter how much he wished they weren’t. Ramos wants a compromise, but Colin won’t settle for a fraction of Ramos—he wants all or nothing. He just never thought he would end up with nothing.
Ramos realizes that ten years ago he made the biggest mistake of his life, but he wouldn’t change his decision, not with what he has now. With ten years gone, Ramos is finally in the position to reclaim what he lost a decade before; he just has to convince Colin that he is all in this time.
This story was told through flashbacks, for the most part, and surprisingly I loved that. I liked how Ms. Brown told the story through Colin’s eyes in the present, and through his memories of the past. What I didn’t like was the fact that Ramos seemed to put Colin, the man he professed to love with all of his heart, so far down on his priority list that he basically broke Colin. It seemed to me that Ramos expected Colin to just forgive him with zero arguments, and he couldn’t understand why Colin was resistant.
Their love story was definitely one for the ages, but the way it ended, wow…I don’t know that I have enough forgiveness in me to have even given Ramos the time of day. So for me, the writing was all Sue Brown…brilliant. But the overall story and the way Colin just seemed to give in so easily? Not really my cup of tea. This in no way will keep me from reading another Sue Brown book, though. I will be the first in line for her next book and the next and the next.
