Blurb: For Jamison’s fortieth birthday his best friend has hired an escort for the night. Jamison is shocked, but Clyce is too sexy to be ignored and far too tempting to resist. A few short hours of fun is all that is supposed to be between them, but some Valentine’s Day fun is about to become a lot more complicated when their hearts get involved.
Review: Bargaining with the Bear is a fun read and felt deceptively longer than its short seventy-nine pages…in a good way. When the idea of multiple types of shifters hit the scene years ago (as opposed to just wolf shifters), I was resistant. I like my good-old-fashioned werewolf, vampire, witch triad. But eventually I got with the times, and this book gave me a healthy dose of what the world would be like with all different types of shifters.
Clyce is unapologetic about his work for Critters on Call, an organization providing escort services to people looking for shifter fun. When he meets Jamison, a bear shifter, Jamison falls pretty hard and fast. As Jamison gets to know Clyce, and wants to be with him, Clyce is brutally honest about his work as a “whore”, and how he is happy doing what he does and won’t change. He admits he wants to find a partner, but most guys either see him as a piece of meat or can’t handle his line of work and want to change him.
This element to the story was my favorite, and how Clyce went about doing his job and setting the expectations for Jamison, seeing if Jamison could truly take the lifestyle Clyce led. You could really feel Clyce’s and Jamison’s desire and struggle as they yearned for each other and hoped for a happy ending.
All in all, a very well done and enjoyable story that captivated me from start to finish.
