Rain Carrington Joins Us Today To Talk Pride, “Penny’s Lane”, And Giveaways

Penny’s Lane (Apishipa Creek Chronicles Book 2)
I am not simply a writer of gay romance and erotica; I am an ally to the gay community. I have been for as long as I can remember (and that is a LONG time). This weekend I was lucky enough to make it to Denver for Pride. My daughter and I drove to the bigger city and from the moment we got into Denver we felt it, a feeling of freedom and happiness that came over the both of us. From the minute we got there to the minute Denver was in the rearview we smiled.

Once on in the city we parked and walked to the parade route. Right away we saw people dressed in rainbows…tutus, leggings, boas, hats, skirts and kilts in rainbow colors. I had a painted shirt and a rainbow flag around my waist so I blended in just fine.

There was not a scowl or frown among the people headed to the street where the parade would pass. There was not an angry word or face without a smile. It was refreshing.

As we sat on the lawn of our state capital, we looked around at children and older people, straight and gay, people in groups and alone all coming out to celebrate diversity. That was a little like a contradiction in terms because we didn’t feel diverse or different at all. We felt like a family or at the very least old friends.

There was a sense of the hard fought battle to get there. Of the centuries of persecution and bigotry. To be there spoke that there was light at the end of that tunnel but the fight isn’t over. It was a simple calm in the middle of a storm. This was amplified for a brief time by two lone protestors blowing horns and holding a sign saying we were all going to hell.

No one got upset. We laughed and drew closer together because of it. How many other groups can say that? Whether gay or an ally, trans, bi or parent of someone who is, there was nothing that would take the good feeling in the air. The protestors were the ones who were the odd men out and for once those who had grown to think they were the different ones got to be just one of the crowd. Sometimes as a straight woman, I take for granted how it feels to be just ordinary. There is nothing about me that stands out per say. Most people in that crowd are made to feel different, and wrong, every day of their lives.

Every day except this time of year when they can be one of the crowd and not wrong but proud. Pride in their differences but just as proud of their similarities. There were no labels, gay, straight, bear, twink or drag queen. There was laughter and cheering. There was music and applause. There was my governor walking with his head high in the parade and policemen and women who rode through announcing their sexuality.

There was joy.

This time of year means a lot of things to a lot of people but to me and so many others it is the time of year when we can shed our cares and celebrate who we are, no matter who that is.

Author Bio: Rain Carrington started writing when she was just a teenager in Trinidad, Colorado but didn’t start writing M/M romance until much later. Through the years many of her gay male friends told stories of heartache and the struggle to find “the one” so she told them stories, fantasies all about them and their future cowboy, fireman, biker or policeman. When she found a writing site that encouraged her to write them down she started what was an adventure like she never had before.

Her first story, Cabin fever, about a young man searching for love and finding it wrapped in a member of a mafia family gained her readers who cheered for more. She knew then that she had found her place in the world. To make stories of love and kink that not only her readers but she could get lost in as well.

Rain now lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado but has traveled most of the US. Her last road trip to San Francisco gave her characters still coming out…no pun intended…in her newer stories. Rain has severe scoliosis which makes it hard for her to do all the things she used to love but it did give her the time to write that she never had before. She fights for lgbt rights from her home as best she can now and keeps in close contact with her friends that fight on two good legs to point them where they should go. She is a fervent believer that one door never closes without another opening so there are no limits she can’t get past.

Of all the people in the world no one has encouraged and supported her like her friends, many of them writers themselves, and her family. There is never a dull moment in her home where laughter is in the air 24/7 and everyone knows to avoid the computer screen when she sits in front of it. They never know what kind of beautiful man love they may see. Rain calls it research, they call it, “there she goes again!”
