Interview and Giveaway: Mending the Rift by Chris T. Kat

Lisa: Hi, Chris, welcome to The Novel Approach. It’s great to have you back on your Mending the Rift tour.

Why don’t we start the interview by having you talk a little bit about your career as an author? What would you say is the most satisfying thing about being a writer?

Chris: For me, the most satisfying part is to create new worlds, to see how the characters develop, how they interact with each other. I love to give my characters their happy ending.

I can get lost in my stories, and I can turn off the real world for a while. Especially when I’ve had a bad day at work, writing keeps me sane.

Lisa: Since you’ve mentioned your characters, do they ever take over your writing and make the story go somewhere you hadn’t originally planned?

Chris: Well, sometimes that happens. Most of the time I follow my characters’ lead. Sometimes, like in Breeding Stations and Battle Stations, I have no chance whatsoever because a character, in this case Berit, simply decides how the story will play out and leaves me with no other option than to hang on for the ride.

Lisa: How did you come up with the idea for Mending the Rift?

Chris: When I started writing, I started as a fan fiction writer. One of my first stories, which turned out to become a whole alternate universe, was an m-preg story as well. I can’t explain why the idea of male pregnancies always appealed to me, it just did. After writing pretty much anything, I had the desire to go back to my roots, so to speak, and write another m-preg story. Thus Mending the Rift was born.

Lisa: How did you celebrate the release of your book?

Chris: I’m probably the odd one out, but I don’t celebrate the releases of my books. I’m so tied up in real world stuff that it often takes me till the evening of the release day to acknowledge the fact it is a release day. That doesn’t mean I’m not proud to publish books, though.

Lisa: And now, here’s Will Parkinson’s signature question: have you ever written naked?

Chris: Nope, never and I don’t plan to change that. I freeze way too easily. ;-)

About the Author: Chris T. Kat lives in the middle of Europe, where she shares a house with her husband of many years and their two children. She stumbled upon the M/M genre by luck and was swiftly drawn into it.
