Please give a warm welcome to author Devon Rhodes today, on the tour for the re-release of Stranger in Black, from Dreamspinner Press.
Hi Lisa! Thanks for having me on The Novel Approach. 🙂 I’m at the Olympics this weekend and they’re every bit as awe inspiring as I’d imagined. Okay, so maybe I should clarify that I’m not at THOSE Olympics, but the OTHER Olympics…Olympic National Park on the peninsula of Washington. Couldn’t resist. 😉 Right now, I’m sitting in an Adirondack chair overlooking the Dungeness Spit and in the distance is Canada. We’ll be crossing on the ferry to Victoria this afternoon, but for now…peace and coffee with my laptop.
It’s interesting that I seem to have an easier time writing in places other than my home. Whether at a conference, my Mom’s house, or sitting by a pool or the ocean, the words seem to flow a little bit easier. I even wrote in Disneyland while waiting for my girls to finish their meal! This book, Stranger in Black, was almost entirely written while at Sunriver Resort in Central Oregon, either on the back deck of our vacation rental or by the pool watching the girls swim. I know that many authors thrive on having a routine for sitting down to write, but I seem to do well with a bit of variety in my surroundings, lol. 🙂
Stranger in Black is one of my older books that I’ve revised, and now has a great new cover with a perfect Jarrod. Love the smile. 🙂 Jarrod went to the masquerade trying to help out his closest friend, but got a bit more than he bargained for in a hotel meeting room! And Christian went through a lot of work to find closure with the wrong guy, only to stumble across a great guy at the wrong time. Not exactly a traditional start for these two, but if they can get everyone’s stories straightened out, they might have a chance at something extraordinary. 🙂
About the Book
Blurb: Before Christian can end his relationship with a closeted cheater, he needs to see the evidence firsthand. He disguises himself and attends a masquerade ball escorted by a friend, in search of the Stranger in Black. When he finds him, he gets something entirely different—and much more erotic—than he expected.
Wearing a black-and-gold mask, Jarrod is on the hunt for Chris, the “other woman” his best friend’s fiancé is having an affair with. But a sexy vision in a white gown captures his attention and takes his breath away, which is strange, since he’s gay.
One by one, the pieces fall away, exposing their dual deception. After the masks—and the pants—are off, Christian and Jarrod must work together to support a friend… and maybe become something more than strangers.
First Edition published by Amber Quill Press, LLC, 2011.
About the Author
Devon Rhodes is a happily caffeinated former sleepwalker who, over a decade ago, left the business world for the cushy life of motherhood. Two kids later, at around 39 (and holding), she couldn’t take her ponytail and T-shirt life anymore. So she sat down at the laptop to try to do justice to the images burning in her head. A few months later, success! She fended off her identity crisis by morphing from stay-at-home mom into a published erotic romance writer.
She lives in beautiful Oregon with her family, who are (mostly) understanding of all the time she spends on her laptop, aka the black hole. You can find her wherever her two girls are, and you’ll never see her in a scrunchie again. Devon loves to hear from readers—you can email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
