It’s great being here at The Novel Approach and we thank Lisa for hosting us on our blog tour for our first co-written book, The Hockey Players Heart.
The Hockey Player’s Heart, which comes out tomorrow from Dreamspinner Press, is #50 in the Dreamspun Desires line of gay category romances, and is the first book in our Hockey Hearts series. It’s a feel-good story featuring an NHL hockey superstar who returns to his small hometown in upstate New York and falls for a grade school teacher–the nice guy who tutored him in high school years before. For New York Rangers captain Caleb Carter and teacher Aaron Price it’s a second chance at the love they never spoke about while they were teens.
Our inspiration for the book and series was to create an interconnected group of characters as a way to tell a range of stories.
Setting it in the world of hockey was a natural, since Jeff loves to write about the sport. From there we looked at the tropes and character types we both loved to come up with the first three stories in the series.
Initially, we’d considered calling the series The Wedding of the Year and centering it on events that happened around Caleb and Aaron. While the series title changed, the concept for the books remained the same.
Given this is category romance, we’re not spoiling anything when we mention that Caleb and Aaron get their happily ever after. The second and third books feature Caleb and Aaron in supporting roles while other characters step to the forefront to find their happy.
It’s one of the things we enjoy most about the Dreamspun line. There are some terrific series written by some amazing authors and (as a reader) it’s great to see beloved characters from previous books make cameos to show how they’re doing.
