Guest Post and Backlist Giveaway With Carole Cummings

Author's Spotlight

Hi, everyone, and thanks to Lisa and the crew at The Novel Approach Reviews for letting me come and do this. I’m not wearing my Genre Talk hat today, but I’ve got some plans to make the semiregular feature even more exciting in 2016, with new authors, more interviews, and lots of giveaways of DSP Publications releases. The backlists are growing and we’re all looking forward to sharing them with all you Awesome Readers.

I am, however, a bit of a Luddite, alas. And in order to bring you all the things I want to bring you, I need to know how to do the giveaways properly, which means I need to learn how to use Rafflecopter. (Shut up, I’m tech-useless and it’s scary!) So today I’m breaking my Rafflecopter cherry, and you’re all my guinea p—er, I mean my awesomely patient helpers.

The prize is a book of your choice from my backlist. All you have to do to enter is use the widget to comment below. In keeping with TNA’s upcoming Flashback Friday theme, recommend your favorite M/M Speculative Fiction novel in the comments. Please include your email address, CC backlist title choice, and preferred file format, and that’s it! Shares and referrals are like hugs but are not required. This time. Mwa ha ha ha ha ha! (<—-evil laughter) A recommendation, though, is required, so c’mon, everyone—give us all some good things to read!

Okay, that should do it. (I hope!) A winner will be chosen on Sunday and notified shortly thereafter. Thanks for your patience, and good luck!

  1. One book? Seriously? I can’t even pick one favorite among your books… But okay – SciFi M/M favorite… I’m going with Lyn Gala’s… Ack. One of Lyn Gala’s… I bet someone else will pick “Claimings, Tails and Other Alien Artifacts” so I’m going to go with “Turbulence” – Jacqs is an experienced soldier, a big man and a fighter, with a very straightforward world-view and a total blindspot for bullsh*t – not that he doesn’t recognize it when he sees it, but that he has no concept of why people feel compelled to spew it or live with it, or expect anyone to believe it or go along with it. He’s a great character – reminds me a bit of “Al” in Muscling Through”, if Al was way tougher, and had a bad temper. Still, the same simple outlook that sees the world from an angle where our familiar weasel-worded conventions need not apply. A fun book.

Don’t need a backlist prize :) but I’ll check back and see what other book recs you get.

  2. Recommendation: Dark Space by Lisa Henry – this book was a bit out of my comfort zone due to what happens to Cam when he is captive, but I am so glad I took the trip out of my zone. The world, characters and plot were all amazing. This is billed as book 1. I will definitely jump on book 2 if/when it is published.

Title Choice: WOLF’S-OWN, BOOK ONE: GHOST, mobi file format

  4. **hugs** Hiya Carole.

I’m going to go with Liesmith by Alis Franklin, which is just an AMAZING reworking of the Loki mythology in modern times. I can’t pimp it enough.

And, uh, backlist – I kinda have everything already so are **hugs** OK?

  6. I have to admit that Carol Cummings is a new author to me. I remember the cover of WOLF’S-OWN, BOOK ONE: GHOST but could not find it after it was published because I failed to put it on my WANT TO READ List. I have it on now though! Thank you for the opportunity to win one of your books.

  7. Select only one!?! Hmm… flipping through my favorites list… Lyn Gala was already mentioned with her Claimings and Tails… Oh, Loved Blue on Black by Carole *side-eyes Carole*… Flip-flip-flip… Oh, Piper by Leona Carver a mixture of Sci-fi and fairy tale that I couldn’t put down.

No backlist prize needed. I already own all of your titles in paperback and signed… I just love sharing my favorite reads. ^_^

    1. Oh, I can definitely deal with more than one, and yeah, it’s almost impossible to pick, isn’t it? I’m with you on Lyn Gala. I don’t know about that Cummings chick, though, but there’s this amazing author who writes The Sumeria Sons series. *wink wink* (*hugs*) I haven’t read the Carver one. *adds to TBR* Thank you, Lexi. You are, as always, damned awesome.

  8. THE PERSIAN BOY by Mary Renault, HELL AND EARTH by Elizabeth Bear, Kushner’s SWORDPOINT already mentioned, I see, so widening the recs field a bit, because they’re just good books and I’m not good at stayin’ in the box… GOSSAMER AXE by Gael Baudino, THE WINDS’ FOUR QUARTERS by Tanya Huff, . And I already have all your books, m’dear! :)

  9. I cannot recommend Tali Spencer’s Thick As Thieves enough. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it’s good fun. It’s like eating a big tub of Cool Whip. You know what goes good with Cool Whip? MORE COOL WHIP.

She’s finishing up the sequel Thick as Ice soon and I neeeeed it. Neeeeeeed.

I already have Ghost and Weregild! <3 I'd be interested in Koan in epub format. :D

  10. Well, speculative fiction is not my forte (I’ve read a lot of MM novels, but 90% of them are contemporary romance books),but lately I’m finding myself buying it more and more…especially fantasy books. So,I don’t have a favorite, but the ones I’d recommend are:
    – Time Waits by C.B. Lewis – debut novel (one of the best I’ve read) with time-traveling
    – Tears by Jean Lowe Carlson – beautiful story about faith and love
    – Seventh by Rachel White – lovely short story (fantasy) about physically imperfect MC finding love with someone who could see the beauty inside…and it has a mistery too.

My choice would be Blue On Black in ePUB format…
