“Conversation, like certain portions of the anatomy, always runs more smoothly when lubricated.” ― Marquis de Sade
Ok, so you know how you read a book and there are two, maybe three story lines going on and it just doesn’t work? Well, that isn’t this book. Sara York and L.E. Franks not only made it work, but they made it work well. I am addicted to these wolves and I can’t wait to read more about them.
The world these two authors created is a little different from most shifter books I have read. The Alpha position for the South Carolina based Montefiore pack is decided by bloodline. Carlo Montefiore’s family has been leading the pack for over five hundred years. Sadly, Carlo’s father died when Carlo was underage so Angelo took over the Alpha position. Unfortunately Carlo didn’t know that his father and Angelo had a plan in place for the future. Maybe if he knew things could have turned out differently and he wouldn’t harbor so much animosity toward Angelo.
I mentioned two or three story lines, right? I am going to start with my favorite part of the story. I am so deeply in love with Angelo and Carlo. These two men are both total alphas, literally. They are so gone for one another that it is just crazy. However, being the alphas that they are, they have let too many misunderstandings go for too long. Carlo harbors so much animosity that Angelo never has the chance to clear up anything with him. If these two men could let go of past hurts and TALK to one another civilly, the fireworks would never quit, I just know it.
While Carlo was away in California for college, he met Ted and the two men became very close. Along with his best friend since childhood, Joey, the three men have formed their own small three person pack. I liked how close these three men are. There is no doubt that Carlo is their alpha, but they are all also close friends. Joey seems to be smitten with Ted, but Ted is a mysterious man. All Joey knows is that Ted met Carlo in California and Carlo brought the man back with him. Neither Carlo nor Ted are giving any details, and that makes Joey feel like he is being excluded, and he doesn’t like that one bit.
Joey and Ted are struck dumb when they see two twinks moving into the house across the street. Kevin and Grady are two college freshman who have been best friends for years. These two are suffering from the same problem that Carlo and Angelo are plagued with. They never TALK to each other. They both love each other, but are too scared to lose their friendship to take the chance to voice this love. This opens them up to Joey and Ted’s seduction and leads to some pretty hot times for all the men.
I will be totally honest with you; I started this book and could not put it down. The characters, the world building and the drama that comes from all of these men just sucked me in and wouldn’t let me go. Now, if you like a book that is wrapped up happily at the end with a bow, this book is not it. I would have to say this book was like a very long prologue. We got to meet the packs, we got to meet all the players in the game and we got a glimpse into the history between all of the characters. The way the book was written was wonderful. I loved the main characters, Angelo, Carlo, Ted, Joey, Kevin and Grady. The thing I really appreciated was getting to know the secondary characters just as well. I have a feeling everyone I met will have a role in the series and I cannot wait to find out what those roles will be.
If you like big strong alpha males, they are here. If you like young cute twinks, well, they are here too. There are some wonderfully strong female characters that stand up to these alpha males and I loved them. I will definitely be reading the next books in the series.
I highly recommend this title and I dare you not to fall in love with this series!
