Hello, Internet! I’m Lex Chase and Lisa invited me over to kick things off for The Novel Approachs 5 Year Blog-Versary!
Where do I even begin? In the four years Ive known Lisa and the crew at TNA, theyve become great friends and some of the nicest people in the LGBTQ book review blogging biz. I can always count on their reviews to be objective and honest. As an author, I thrive on reviews that tell me what they liked, what they didnt, and why. Sure, the gushing ones inflate my ego (after all who wouldnt get a big head about them!) But notes about similar themes I seem to fall back on from book to book, and where I can improve are always the best.
And I was like omg wtf do I post about? Because the coming year, youll be seeing less of me as an author, but more of me as an artist as Im unleashing my super-secret superpower that yes, Virginia, I draw, and Im taking commissions.
So, heres my contribution.
Its December, and I decided to go for the other couple in my Screw-Up Princess and Skillful Huntsman series, the villains. Male Princess Atticus Hatfield aka Snow Whitethe adorable one on the leftand his true love and hot as fuck Idi the Witchking on the right. They may be utter psychotic jackasses, but if you read Urban Fairy Tale, the final book in the series, youll see theres two sides to every story. These two are so deeply in love that their saga spans time, space, and even destiny.
Whats in the box? Maybe a human heart or maybe a fluffy kitten. Doesnt matter. What matters is no matter what, even the coldest hearts can be warm, loving, and truly enamored with the other.
I’ve been a digital artist for years before I was a writer. Even went to Savannah College of Art and Design, one of the most prestigious art schools in the world, and have a BFA in Sequential Art. That means comics. I basically have a degree in Batman. Hah! I even used to run a webcomic.
I’ve had interest in my work from editors at DC Comics to Top Shelf Comics when the interest in LGBTQ storylines were just starting. I could have been on the ground floor of all of that. I could have been a goddamn pioneer in a now flourishing genre. But I put away my Wacom tablet in exchange for being a writer. I even sold my entire comic collection of thousands of comics. Why did I give it up? I had an utter lack of confidence. I was certain I couldnt make it.
Fast forward to ten years later, and one of my dearest friends, C.S. Poe, actually prodded/encouraged/badgered/encouraged me for monthsat least half a year or moreto start drawing again. I had done a few freebies for my own blog tours such as a Chasing Sunrise piece for Joyfully Jay which you can see here, and an Urban Fairy Tale piece for here at TNA that you can see here.
C.S. Poe finally insisted to give me money for my work. I resisted at first. Because who the fuck would give me money? (Did I mention the confidence thing? Yeaaaaahhh…) She was my first commission when I did a full cast piece for her wonderful book Mystery of Nevermore. Followed by several other pieces. Ive done projects for Kim Fielding, Felice Stevens, Tali Spencer, the authors involved in the Once Upon a Time in the Weird West anthology (which youll be seeing soon!), participated in several Hannibal fan events. Because Hannibal. Thanks to them, Ive paid off one of my massive credit card bills without any assistance from my mother. Because that sucks when Mommy needs to step in and help with the bills, am I right or what?
So, it all comes full circle here.
If you would like to commission me, and my door is always open, you can find my information here or click the graphic below.
Postcards, bookmarks, trading cards, blog graphics? I got you covered! Or maybe something a little different. Im actually expanding into doing book covers if youre looking.
So, enjoy the rest of TNAs awesome party! Ill be back with sketches, doodles, or whatever else when Lisa lets me drop by!
This is not the end, but a new beginning!

Lex Chase once heard Stephen King say in a commercial, Were all going to die, Im just trying to make it a little more interesting. Now, shes on a mission to make the world a hell of a lot more interesting.
Weaving tales of cinematic, sweeping adventureand depending on how she feels that dayLex sprinkles in high-speed chases, shower scenes, and more explosions than a Hollywood blockbuster. Her pride is in telling stories of men who kiss as much as they kick ass. If youre going to march into the depths of hell, it better be beside the one you love.
Lex is a pop culture diva, her DVR is constantly backlogged, she has intense emotions about Hannibal’s Hannigram, and unapologetically loved the ending of Lost. She wouldnt last five minutes without technology in the event of the apocalypse and has nightmares about refusing to leave her cats behind.
