Blurb: When struggling novelist Chris Valentine meets Jesse Donovan, he’s interested in a book contract, or possibly a date. The last thing Chris expects is a marriage proposal from New York City’s most eligible bachelor!
Jesse’s in a pinch. To keep control of his company, he has to marry. So he has valid reasons for offering Chris this business deal: in exchange for living in a gorgeous mansion for a year, playing the doting husband, Chris gets all the writing time he wants and walks away with a million-dollar payoff. Surely Chris can handle that. He can handle living with the most handsome and endearing man he’s ever met, a man he immediately knows he wants in the worst way and can’t have. Or can he?
Review: I actually read this book when it came out and loved it soooo much that I picked up the audio for review! I am an old school trope reader from back in the day—I loved my grandmother’s books with all the secret babies and sheiks.
First Comes Marriage is everything I could have hoped for and more. Shira Anthony perfectly encompasses the old school love with a new school twist. Chris Valentine is absolutely adorkable, with his sci-fi author persona and his struggling with making writing his actual full time job. And Jesse is the perfect love interest. The offer of marriage sets up the perfect situation.
What’s so amazing about this book is the wonderful love story you get to witness as Chris and Jesse fall in love. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jesse pretending to be a straight man; however, this is classic, and does go well with the story. I would 100% recommend this as a read.
Narration: John Solo is a solid narrator with many voices in his back pocket. He brings individuality to the characters and brought the story to life. I look forward to listening to more of his narrations.
