Blurb: Tattoo artist Seth Wheeler thinks he’s struck gold when Darren Romero rents the apartment across the hall. The new guy is gorgeous, witty, and single, plus he’s just the right blend of bold and flirtatious. Perfect.
Except then Darren reveals that he moved to Tucker Springs to take a job as the youth pastor at the New Light Church. Seth is not only an atheist, but was thrown out by his ultra-religious family when he came out. He tends to avoid believers, not out of judgment but out of self-preservation.
But Darren doesn’t give up easily, and he steadily chips away at Seth’s defenses. Darren is everything Seth wants in a man . . . except for that one massive detail he just can’t overlook. Is Darren’s religion the real problem, or is it just a convenient smokescreen to keep him from facing deeper fears? It’s either see the light, or risk pushing Darren away forever.
Review: This was a wonderfully written love story with religion as the main obstacle keeping the characters apart. It takes a great writer to beautifully handle a serious subject like religion, and a wonderfully created character like Darren to do that with. Darren is everything I would want in a preacher and a man—kind, accepting, loving and handsome.
Seth is a little bit more hard-headed. Together they make a great couple, with intelligent talk and a sweet love story. This story is simple, and interaction between the characters dominated; I appreciate that. I got to watch these two fall in love slowly.
Narration: Charlie David does a wonderful job of narrating this book. As any good narrator does, he lets you lose yourself in the story and forget that there is a man narrating it. Normally I comment on the difference in voices, but David is a different type of narrator. He acts the story out but doesn’t really change his voice much. He doesn’t need to, which is a unique skill.
